Croatia’s EU Accession and Real Estate Investments

Legal update for Investors in Croatian Real Estate

The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in association with CMS Zagreb will be giving a presentation on Croatia and EU Legislation and in particular one of the topics will be:

 “How will Croatian accession to EU change real estate investments in Croatia?”  Good question!

If you invested in the residential property market in Croatia after 2007, buying an apartment or villa for rental to tourists, it is very likely that you were caught-up in what became known as the ‘Categorisation Issue’, which made it extremely difficult if not impossible for foreign nationals who owned property in Croatia to obtain a tourist rental licence for their property.  

Croatian nationals who own property in Croatia as a private citizen are not subject to the same conditions.

So this presentation will be a useful opportunity, for foreign nationals still ensnared by the Categorisation Issue, to find out if Croatia joining the EU changes anything and levels the playing field as is hoped by many foreign investors.

 The presentation will be followed by a networking reception.
