Kabola Amfora Malvazija Istarska 2016

Kabola Amfora 2016 is a very special white wine (aka Orange wine) made in a the ancient and traditional natural way. The crushed grapes are fermented, using natural yeasts, with their skins (maceration) in large 2,000 litre amphora vessels buried in the ground near the winery. After maceration for 7 months, the wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels (4,000 litre) for several years before bottling and further aging for around 6-12 months. This is the way Romans and Greeks made wine thousands of years ago, recaptured in the 21st century.

Kabola winery is situated in an elevated terraced position on the South West facing side of the Momjan Valley, towards the Adriatic Sea, which can be seen in the distance from the vineyards. This location benefits from dry warm air and therefore there is no need to spray the vines, which supports the maintaining of their EKO Organic certified status of the winery. Kabola was the first vineyard in Istria to achieve EKO Organic certification in 2007. It is also the region in Istria where the red and grey soils touch each other, which gives the wines a special flavour.
